and the outcome is unclear.
When our courage is sharply challenged,
and we feel a pang of fear.
Keep the faith, and sail onward,
prize those miles, their cost is dear.
He is near and ever-present,
He's the light by which we steer.
He's the light by which we steer.
When the spray is cold and icy,
and dark, fearsome clouds appear.
Hands and feet are wet and frozen,
and it's hard to persevere.
Pray for blue skies and calm waters,
like a stalwart pioneer.
He's our ever-guiding beacon,
He's the light by which we steer.
He's the light by which we steer.
When our goals and dreams seem distant,
and hopes all but disappear.
When our hearts are filled with sorrow,
weak and worn we shed a tear.
Square our shoulders to the tempest,as our foes look on and sneer.
Beckoning with loving-kindness,
He's the light by which we steer.
He's the light by which we steer.
Grip the helm and face the torrent,
though the gale is severe.
Endure well, and be believing,
just beyond, the sky is clear.
Look toward heaven and be faithful,
let our hearts be of good cheer.
He's our Master and Commander,
He's the light by which we steer.
He's the light by which we steer.

I read the following in August of 2012, and the spirit whispered that the words, "THE LIGHT BY WHICH WE STEER" was a poem that was somewhere within my heart. It emerged today.
"Since Jesus is at the very center of it all, we must make Him and His ways THE LIGHT BY WHICH WE STEER and the light that we hold up to others. To proceed in any other way is to proceed with less light - much less light. Life is too filled with perplexities and variables for one to prevail without the guiding light of the gospel."
